Abstract
A 16-year-old girl with masticatory, disturbance due to severe gingival enlargement was clinically and histopathologically- examined, and treated via the gingivectomy and the gingivoplasty.
The following results were obtained.
1. It was an Idiopathic Gingival Hyparplasia related to the puberty, without specific related factors such as general health and familial tendency.
2. Due to the abnormal tissue pressure from enlarged buccal gingiva, upper and lower right posterior teeth were pathologically lingually migrated, the disharmony in the continuity of dental arch was produced, and the anterior open bite was resulted from the occlusal disharrnony of the posterior teeth.
3. In the histopathological study, the ep .helial proliferation with hyperkeratosis and the mature collagen fiber bundles in the connective tissue layer were markedly observed, but fe,v inflammatory cells were found out.
4. One month after gingivectomy and gingivoplasty, the recovering tendency was remarkable in the shortened distance between canine cusp tip and buccal cusp tip of first prclnolar, 1.1^(§®) (10.9 - 9.8) in the maxilla and 1.7^(§®) (9.8 - 8.1) in the mandible, and in the change from anterior open bite to 3.6^(§®) overbite.
5. The periodical recall check for the recurrence of gingival enlargement should be performed.
Conclusively, the abave results suggested that the pathologically migrated teeth due to abnormal tissue pressure could be returned to their original position by elimination of the etiologic factor such as enlarged tissue.
